Treatment of Skin Diseases: Comprehensive Therapeutic Strategies

Arch Dermatol. 2003;139(9):1226. doi:10.1001/archderm.139.9.1226-a

This book summarizes current management strategies for more than 200 challenging dermatological conditions frequently encountered by the clinician. The collective experience of more than 300 well-respected dermatologists has been included in this textbook of therapeutic advice.

The book is well organized alphabetically by disease type and designed for fast reference. For each entity, there is a brief description with an excellent color photograph and bulleted summaries on key facts, management strategies, specific studies recommended, and primary, secondary, and tertiary therapies. The therapeutic recommendations are ranked according to evidence of efficacy. In addition, every treatment has its bibliography annotated with observations from the author team. The production quality of this textbook is outstanding and there is also a PDA version that can be loaded on a handheld computer, making it extremely practical. This volume will become a precious guide regarding treatment and management ideas for anyone involved in the care of patients with skin disorders, but in particular for those who frequently deal with the more complex cases. Moreover, I believe that this volume will become a popular reference textbook for dermatology residents and academic clinicians. In summary, I greatly enjoyed reading and using this book and it has quickly become one of my favorite sources when dealing with complicated dermatological cases.
