Accessory tonsils may be found at one or several sites in the mouth. Often, neither the patient nor the physician is aware of their presence. Recently I examined a woman with cancerophobia who insisted that I remove a small papule on the floor of her mouth. Microscopic examination of the excised tissue showed an ectopic tonsil.

A 37-year-old woman had first noticed a lesion on the floor of her mouth several weeks prior to her office visit. Her past medical history included childhood pneumonia and multiple breast biopsy specimen that showed benign changes. For some years she had been under outpatient psychiatric treatment for cancerophobia and a chronic anxiety state. Her long-term and ongoing medication was limited to thioridazine. Although the patient was asymptomatic, the presence of the lesion was intolerable to her, and she sought to have it removed.Inspection disclosed a 3 脳 3-mm
