Although I had not been aware of Dr F. Pinkus' observations in his "Anatomie der Haut," my knowledge of disseminate and recurrent infundibulo-folliculitis, and of cutis punctata linearis colli has taught me the linear distribution of the pilosebaceous structures in the regions of the clavicles. In fact, I thought that this anatomical arrangement was common knowledge and that the discoverer had been lost in antiquity.Dr Johnson and I made no pretense that we were making an original observation in regard to the distribution of the pilosebaceous structures. We were intrigued, however, by the occurrence of linear papules in the vicinity of the clavicles. We knew that the linear arrangement was dependent on the distribution of the follicular structures. But why does a quarter of the population show such papules, and why are they more common in blacks than in whites?Why are the papules most numerous in
