Essential components of a superior atlas include presentation of the disease in its most common and rare forms, detailed pictures and text, adequate differential diagnosis, and logical organization. Diseases of the Skin by White and Cox contains these components, resulting in a valuable reference for practicing dermatologists, dermatology residents, and primary care physicians. The most useful feature of this book is described by the authors in the preface: "Our aim has been to produce a comprehensive and copiously illustrated book which fulfills the function of a dermatology atlas with high quality pictures, but also has sufficiently detailed supporting text to make it a useful reference source. . . ." This book, therefore, is a one-stop reference for excellent pictures and informative text.
