Writing Out Loud: To Computers, Patients, and Burnout, 2016

I started writing this passage during my general cardiology rotation, known to be one of the busiest inpatient services. I absolutely love cardiology and was learning a lot from our stellar faculty. The interns were working hard and the ancillary staff was very supportive. But there was something wrong, something that was making me feel uneasy in a very visceral way. Despite spending long hours at work, I could not tell what it was that made the sense of accomplishment constantly evade my mind. Then, it finally hit me: it was the computer screen that I had been staring at for the better part of every day.
