AMA PRA Category 1 Creditâ„¢ For Publishing as Lead Author

Some activities do not occur under the auspices of an accredited CME provider. The Council on Medical Education recognizes the learning that occurs in completing these activities and allows physicians to claim AMA PRA Category 1 Creditâ„¢ directly from the AMA for the activities defined in this section.

Publishing, as the lead author (first listed), a peer-reviewed article in a journal included in the MEDLINE bibliographic database is an activity eligible for CME credit. The physician should apply to the AMA for a certificate indicating the AMA PRA Category 1 Creditâ„¢ awarded for completion of each activity. One certificate will be provided for each type of activity claimed. Credit can only be awarded for activities taking place or completed within the last six years. Applicants should keep a copy of the application and supporting documentation submitted.

Documentation required: a reprint or copy of the page(s) of the journal, which include the name of the author listed first, the name of the journal and date published.

Credit Assignment: AMA PRA Category 1 Creditsâ„¢ per article.
