The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced a proposal to expand its regulation of tobacco products to include electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) and other noncigarette products.
Under a proposed new rule, manufacturers would be required to register these products with the FDA, report ingredient listings, and submit the products for full FDA review before marketing them. Such review would include adding FDA-mandated health warnings to labels and eliminating unproven phrases, such as 鈥渓ight鈥 or 鈥渕ild,鈥 that might be perceived as being associated with less health risk. Sales to underage youth would also be prohibited.
