Here in our nation's capital, it has been coming down pretty consistently throughout the day. I'm standing on the National Mall, and you can get an idea of how deep this snow is just for me standing in it. I mean, it covers my boots. It also hasn't stopped people from trying to have fun out here. Take *** look at that guy over there looks like he's trying to build *** snowman of some sort. This is just some of what the nation has been experiencing throughout the day from this polar vortex. From the middle of the country to the mid-Atlantic, this weather is crazy. *** massive winter storm blanketing nearly half the country, pummeling tens of millions of Americans with snow, ice, and wind. Even with the plows, the roads are still very icy, very snow packed, and it's just dangerous conditions, guys. Just please stay inside. In Missouri, icy roads sending semis skidding, people abandoning vehicles on the side of the road, while in Virginia, state police say they responded to more than 200 crashes in *** 12 hour period. See this car going up here? See it's going sideways already because that's already. The polar vortex causing widespread power outages, forcing schools and businesses to close. I honestly just came out walking for something to do. I was hoping to find *** coffee shop or something that was open, but everything's closed down, also bringing misery to our nation's airports. Hard at work to clear the snow from runways as thousands of flights were canceled or delayed across the country. And here in Washington DC, the snow offering *** bit of levity. The winter storm bringing back *** tradition in our nation's capital. The annual snowball fight. We got some friends over there, so we're trying to make *** beeline for. And the White House issued *** statement earlier today telling Americans to take this storm seriously and to listen to your local officials. In Washington, I'm Christopher Sela.
