Whether you're or you're upgrading older pieces, it's always a smart idea to time your to the various sale seasons throughout the year.
While some brands have random sales here and there, most of them take advantage of holidays and seasonal opportunities to offer major discounts for their customers. Since many retailers follow an annual sale schedule that rarely varies, it can be extremely helpful to know what time of year different types of furniture will be discounted.

“Pieces like sofas, beds and dining tables tend to be higher-ticket items, making them ideal for sale pricing and free shipping incentives,” interior stylist Abby Pendergrast says. “However, I also recommend having a clear list or idea of exactly what you’re looking for before shopping sales to avoid purchasing items or need just because they’re discounted.”
For smaller items like decor and pillows, “sales are less significant since these tend to be lower-priced and more impulsive purchases. To avoid unnecessary buys, keep an ongoing list on your phone so that when a sale happens, you're prepared to shop with intention,” Pendergrast says.

January and February
At the start of the year, many stores offer deals you can’t pass up. “Three-day weekend holidays [like Martin Luther King Jr. Day and Presidents' Day] tend to offer great sales on home items,” Pendergrast says. “You can also find great deals in January after the holiday season, as many retailers aim to offload old inventory to make room for new merchandise for the new year.”
During these months, major furniture sales happen, especially during . What’s more, many stores like and offer anywhere from 30 to 60 percent off and some may even often provide free delivery deals.
March and April
St. Patrick’s Day in March isn't usually a major sale holiday, though some home stores may run pop-up spring sales.
However, in late April (though occasionally it will run in early May), Wayfair holds its own version of Black Friday called "" and offers major savings on home furniture and decor pieces. Furniture such as dining tables and chairs, couches, mattresses, and desks are sold at a discounted rate.
May
In May, you'll see home brands running extended sales in the lead-up to weekend. The holiday marks the beginning of summer and comes with a plethora of sales on furniture for your entire house: Bedding, couches, dining room furniture, appliances, and even outdoor patio pieces.

Pendergrast says early summer is actually the perfect time of year to buy your —it may be last year's stuff, but you'll find it at a huge discount. And once the Fourth of July rolls around, even more sales commence with discounted prices on bedroom, living room, kitchen, and outdoor furniture.
July is also when Amazon holds one of their biannual where consumers can shop for furniture and home pieces such as bed frames, dressers, mattresses, and couches at a discounted price with free two-day shipping. You can usually see discounts of up to 70 percent off on furniture during Prime Big Deal Days.
Throughout late August, you may notice back-to-school sales, featuring home office furniture like desks, desk chairs, lamps, and even dorm decor.
September and October
is seen as an end-of-summer sale, making way for all the fall and winter collections. You’ll likely find pretty good deals at retailers like Target, Wayfair, Pottery Barn, and others. It’s a great time to update your space with simple decor like throw pillows, rugs, and dinnerware or with a new couch or new mattress at a discounted rate.
And while you may not be able to use them until next year, Pendergrast says this is also a smart time to buy patio sets, Adirondack chairs, and pool accessories. “I always look for off-season items during sales, as they are typically more heavily discounted to make way for the next season’s items. So while it’s probably chilly and cold outside during these months, it’s a great time to start looking for patio furniture you’ll want to relax in when summer comes.”
October has recently become quite a busy shopping month, with a second round of Amazon's and happening around the same time.
November and December
As soon as November hits, season begins. The once day-long shopping spree is practically a month-long affair across every shopping category. Many brands like Amazon and Wayfair will switch up their deals by category to entice people to buy consistently throughout the month while also teasing the biggest deals to come on Black Friday itself (always held the day after Thanksgiving). Online retailers usually offer flash sales with up to 75 percent off, plus free shipping on all your furniture, appliance, and home decor needs.
Depending on the calendar, will occasionally occur in December (it is always held the Monday after Thanksgiving). While there are usually holiday-specific deals sprinkled throughout the remainder of December leading up to the holidays, this can be considered the last major chance to purchase home goods (and !) all year.
