If you have taken a look at the moon over the past week, you may have noticed it is especially large! On Wednesday at 9:43 p.m. the moon reached its closest point to Earth, making it was is affectionately known as a supermoon. This was the last supermoon of 2019.
This supermoon is unlike 2019's two earlier supermoons. It happens to coincide with the first day of spring. The moon appeared in the sky less than four hours after spring had officially sprung!
Spring's supermoon is often called a "Worm Moon." Folklore tradition named it such because at this time, the icy ground is melting and earthworms are coming out for spring!
