If you've ever wished you could take a year off and travel the world, Viking Cruises may have just created the best way to achieve that dream. , which departs London on Aug. 31, 2019, will take you to 59 countries and 113 ports across six continents and will last 245 days, making it the world's longest continuous cruise.
“For more than 20 years we have been offering guests the most culturally immersive journeys available in the industry and we are pleased to announce the most extensive itinerary in our history,” Torstein Hagen, chairman of Viking, said in a statement. “Our World Cruises offer guests the rare opportunity to unpack once and explore dozens of the best destinations on earth — at a value that is unprecedented in the travel industry.”
This will be Viking's third around-the-world cruise, but it's nearly double the length of previous itineraries and lasts eight months.
Starting in London, you'll venture through the British Isles and over to Norway before heading west to Iceland and Greenland. From there, you'll make your way to Canada, followed by stops in Boston and New York City before cruising south through the Caribbean.
Then you'll explore virtually the entire coastline of South America from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to Lima, Peru. After that it's time to explore the South Pacific, New Zealand and Australia. You'll also spend plenty of time discovering Southeast Asia, India and parts of Northern Africa before making your way back to London via Spain and Portugal in 2020.
While you'll have the opportunity to spend 22 nights in cities across the world, you'll also have plenty of time to make yourself at home on the ship — the Viking Sun — which can fit up to 930 guests in 465 staterooms. Even though 245 days is a long time to spend on a cruise ship, you won't get bored of the dining options with eight restaurants from which to choose each day.
There's fine dining in The Restaurant, international fare in the World Cafe, regional dishes at The Kitchen Table, multicourse tasting menus at the Chef's Table and Italian at Manfredi's. You can also get burgers at the Pool Grill, afternoon tea at the Wintergarden and Norwegian deli food at Mamsen's, not to mention 24-hour room service delivered to your cabin.
Unfortunately, such a luxurious and lengthy trip does not come cheap. Fares start at $92,990 per person, but if you you'll receive $4,000 in shore excursion credits and $2,000 in shipboard credits that can be used for spa services and more.
