If you've flown on an airplane in the last decade or so you've likely encountered the 3-1-1 rule: No liquids more than 3.4 ounces can pass through airport security. There are two exceptions to the rule — medications and , which includes formula, breast milk and juice. Other than that, you're out of luck if you want to bring your favorite soda, coffee or juice through security.
Unless, that is, you follow sneaky hack.
The travel blogger shared this pro tip last year and it's worth repeating. According to , "Frozen liquid items are allowed through the checkpoint as long as they are frozen solid when presented for screening. If frozen liquid items are partially melted, slushy, or have any liquid at the bottom of the container, they must meet 3-1-1 liquids requirements."
So if you are so inclined, you could get away with bringing that must-have drink with you onto the airplane. But you'll have to freeze it ahead of time and make sure it gets to the airport and through the security line frozen solid. If your regular-sized drink is at all melted, TSA will make you dump it out.
Also worth noting: Per TSA, "The final decision rests with the TSA officer on whether an item is allowed through the checkpoint." So if you get a cranky officer, you might still have to toss it. It's kind of a big commitment, but hey, you gotta do what you gotta do.
On a related note, if you have any other packing questions, may I suggest following . They regularly poke fun at people for trying to bring strange objects through security, and it's hilarious.
