"I don't fire people because of fake news and because of witch hunts," Trump told NBC News this weekend.The journalist, Jeffrey Goldberg of The Atlantic, defended the release of those messages, saying the "public needs to know that they don't take national security seriously."Meanwhile, Trump is trying to move forward amid more pressing international conflicts, threatening new tariffs on Iran and Russia if they do not agree to his demands.Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated he wants the U.S. and its allies to set up a temporary government in Ukraine and oust Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy before he signs a deal to end the war. Trump has warned that if Putin is responsible for a ceasefire falling through, he will impose additional sanctions and tariffs on Russian oil and products from any country buying Russian oil. China and India purchase more than three-quarters of Russia's oil exports.Trump said he will speak with Putin this week.The Trump administration is also facing a setback in restarting denuclearization talks with Iran. Over the weekend, Iran announced it would not agree to direct talks but may work indirectly with the White House. Trump is threatening to bomb Iran and impose tariffs on their trading partners.
