Fans have been long awaiting the fourth installment of Pixar’s beloved franchise that first stole audience's hearts in 1995. Producers announced the concept of a new film in 2014, stating that it would hit theaters in 2017. They later pushed the release date back to June 21, 2019 (). Now, Tim Allen is sharing more details about the highly anticipated cartoon, making fans feel equal parts nostalgic and incredibly excited.
“If it’s anything near the first read through, it is great,” the "" star told . “Somehow they were able to advance this wonderful story that could have easily ended with No. 3 being the best of the bunch.”
Allen, who voices the iconic space hero Buzz Lightyear, also added that the creators were still able to make the latest addition to the series stand apart from the others. “It’s emotional and funny and exciting and different and took it to a whole new level,” he gushed. “It’s terrifically emotional.”
Rumors have surfaced that the plot will surround a search for Woody’s (voiced by ) longtime love Bo Peep, after she was sold off at a yard sale, according to But don’t look to Allen to spill any of the set secrets.
“They’re so scrubbed on this thing they won’t tell me anything about it except I start doing Buzz in about three weeks,” he told . "I got a preliminary idea, and I can’t tell you anything about it because I really respect them. But it’s really good.”
The actor also attributed his love for his part in the movies to this sweet (and very fitting) reason: “This is the most amazing experience of my life, number one because Hanks and I have become friends over this thing,” he said. "I really like this character."
