This Is Iowa: Community collects tons of tabs for teen’s decade-long mission
A lot of Iowans collect the tiny tabs from the top of pop and beer cans, but in an especially emotional This is Iowa, we'll experience a legendary collection.
Almost everyone in Calhoun County has heard about 17-year-old Jacy McAlexander's goal to collect one ton of pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House.
“It's just unbelievable,” said Colin Johnson, a friend of McAlexander.
“It's literally so many pop tabs!” McAlexander’s friend Sam Musselman said.
McAlexander was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma in second grade.
His family spent a significant amount of time at the Ronald McDonald House following his cancer diagnosis.
“We can't even put a price on what they've done for us,” said Kerri McAlexander, Jacy’s mother.

After 9 years of collecting pop tabs, Jacy McAlexander was sure he had enough to fulfill his goal.
When he called vlog to talk about his tabs, we had no idea how powerful his message or how big his jackpot would be.
“I've just never seen this many pop tabs at one time,” said Brenda Miller, with the Ronald McDonald House.
