After a hard-fought battle with brain cancer for more than a year, Senator and military hero John McCain passed away Saturday evening. To honor his legacy, his daughter, Meghan McCain, and her "The View" co-stars offered up kind words about the late politician and decorated veteran.Meghan wrote on Twitter this weekend:My father is gone, and I miss him as only any adoring daughter can. But in this loss, and in this sorrow, I take comfort in this: John McCain, hero of the republic and to his little girl, wakes today to something more glorious than anything on this earth. Today the warrior enters his true and eternal life, greeted by those who have gone before him, rising to meet the Author of All Things: This dream is ended: this is the morning.In her tribute, she also thanked her dad and expressed her desire to "live up to his example, his expectations and his love."Not long after Meghan's message was posted, her co-hosts expressed their gratitude toward the senator. Whoopi Goldberg, a good friend of Meghan's, shared her condolences and that she admired how the senator "never stopped trying to do his best." Sunny Hostin posted a sweet shot of her and John during a "View" segment from last October. During his appearance, John declared that it was time to "lift the national dialogue" and "start respecting each other.""I think the point is that we need to have a kinder, more respectful, but vigorous debate and discussion based on what we want the country to do," the politician said at the time.Meanwhile, Joy Behar wrote, "We have lost someone who was a voice of reason and truth. A hero. He will be sorely missed. RIP, John McCain."Her current co-hosts weren't the only members of "The View" family who showed their love for the McCains. Former stars Rosie Perez, Paula Faris and Star Jones also took time to honor John.The Republican senator will lie at the Capitol Rotunda this Friday. A full-dress service for John is set to take place one day after. According to ABC News, former presidents Barack Obama and George W. Bush will deliver eulogies there. His wife Cindy shared in a heartfelt tweet that though "her heart is broken," she is thankful that he passed "the way he lived, on his own terms, surrounded by the people he loved, in the place he loved best."
