For nearly 30 years, audiences around the world have been endlessly entertained by the trials and tribulations of "The Simpsons." On Sunday night, the show will break a major television record. At 636 episodes, it will become the longest running prime-time scripted series ever, surpassing western drama "Gunsmoke," which 635 episodes between 1955 and 1975.To celebrate the milestone, Fox has released a little video of "The Simpsons" taking a potshot at "Gunsmoke," literally.Everyone knows that Maggie with a gun is a lethal combination: She did shoot Mr Burns, after all."The Simpsons" has recently come under fire recently after a documentary called "The Problem with Apu" asked if the character was a negative stereotype. Actor Hank Azaria, who has voiced Apu since the show's inception, said he was "willing to step aside" from his iconic role. "The idea that anyone, young or old, past or present, is being bullied based on Apu really makes me sad," Azaria told Stephen Colbert. "It certainly was not my intention. I wanted to bring joy and laughter to people."Producer Al Jean has promised to "find an answer that is popular & more right" way to deal with the controversy.Despite the recent controversy, "The Simpsons" remains one of the most celebrated shows in television history. It has won 32 Emmy Awards, 30 Annie Awards and was the first animated series to ever win a Peabody Award.
