We're guessing the last thing on your to-do list for Christmas Day is shopping, but hey, sometimes emergencies spring up. Whether the holiday meal's a mess or your grandkid gets sick, you may need to run out for some essentials. In a pinch, most pharmacies and convenience stores can bail you out with basic ingredients, household products and even some cute last-minute gifts.Stores Open on Christmas DayWith some help from The Balance, we've compiled a list of stores open on Christmas Day 2018. We'll keep adding as we hear back from other retailers, but between these grocery stores, department stores and more, you should be able to find almost anything you need that you can't find in your stocking. After all, people need to fuel up en route to the festivities.Albertsons: Headquartered in Boise, Idaho, Albertsons is one of the few grocery stores open on Christmas Day, specifically from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., says The Balance.Casey's: Even if your location is normally open 24 hours a day, the convenience stores may open a bit later (10 a.m.) on Christmas Day.Circle K/Couche-Tard: These spots supposedly stay open 24/7, 365 days a year.Cumberland Farms: Previously, Cumberland Farms has not only been open on Christmas Day, but they've also offered free coffee to patrons, according to Heavy.CVS: On any other day of the year, the drugstore keeps most locations open 24/7, but on Christmas Day, expect shortened hours, The Balance notes.Dollar Tree: Nearly every small town has a dollar store. Thankfully, Dollar Tree will be open on Christmas — though they "typically operate abbreviated hours," a spokesperson told CountryLiving.com.Family Dollar: As it's affiliated with Dollar Tree, Family Dollar will also be open on Christmas Day, for limited hours.L.L.Bean: While all locations are open on Christmas Eve (some with shortened hours similar to a Sunday), the only locations expected to be open on Christmas are the 24-hour flagship stores in Freeport, Maine (Main Street, Hunt Fish, Home Store and Bike, Boat, and Ski). Rite Aid: Like the other pharmacies on this list, most Rite Aid locations will be open for Christmas.Starbucks: Starbucks will be open on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day this year, though their hours will vary by location. Sheetz: The convenience store company lives up to its definition on Christmas Day, as most locations (though not necessarily all) are conveniently open.Speedway: In the past, Speedway has been open regular hours on December 25.Walgreens/Duane Reade: Chances are, you've got one of these pharmacies near you. Swing by to pick up prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, and basics on Christmas.Stores Closed on Christmas Day While most stores stay open on Christmas Eve, downtown and strip malls are (understandably) much quieter on Christmas Day. Grocery stores are especially tricky, as chains such as Whole Foods and Trader Joe's usually shut their doors on Dec. 25. Even the dependable Walmart will be closed in observance of the holiday. Bass Pro Shops: Stop by on Christmas Eve (most locations are open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.), but on Christmas Day, you could say the shops have "gone fishing."Bed Bath & Beyond: Though this home chain shuts its doors on December 25, it's open Christmas Eve from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., with select stores closing at 5 p.m.Burlington: You'll have plenty of time to swing by Burlington the night before: Most locations will be open until 1 a.m. on Christmas Eve.Cabela's: Just like its sister store, Bass Pro Shops, Cabela's locations will be closed on Christmas, with a majority of them open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve.Cost Plus World Market: From 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve, Cost Plus World Market will be available for last-minute shopping needs. But they close the next day.Cracker Barrel: Grab a bite to eat or something from the gift shop (check out the Country Living collection!) until 2 p.m. Christmas Eve before Cracker Barrel closes for the holiday. Dollar General: Here's one dollar store that closes up shop on Christmas Day. However, stores will be open until 10 p.m. on Christmas Eve.H-E-B: The Texas grocery chain closes at 8 p.m. on Christmas Eve and stays closed for the holiday.Michaels: Grab the last of the materials for DIY gifts or table settings on Christmas Eve. Michaels is open 7 a.m.-6 p.m. before it closes for Christmas.ModCloth: ModCloth makes it easy to score some (very, very) late presents—at least on Christmas Eve, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Christmas Day, the clothing store is closed.Publix: The grocery store tells us it closes early on Christmas Eve (at 7 p.m.) and stays closed on Christmas Day.Sam's Club: Stock up on bulk items, from cheese to booze to toilet paper, on December 24 between the hours of 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. But on December 25, not even a membership card will get you in the door.Stonewall Kitchen: While holiday hours vary on Christmas Eve, all locations are closed Christmas Day.Target: The department store is closed Christmas Day, so plan your final Target shopping trip for Christmas Eve between the hours of 7 a.m. to 12 a.m.The Home Depot: Any pressing home improvement needs that arise on Christmas Day will have to wait. But the day before, The Home Depot's open from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m.Walmart: Stores will be closing for the Christmas holiday at 6 p.m. local time on Christmas Eve. West Elm: While all stores are open Christmas Eve, they're closed Christmas Day. Whole Foods: Don't go to Whole Foods for your missing Christmas dinner ingredients. The grocery chain is closed on Christmas. And on Christmas Eve, hours are limited and may vary, so check with your local store before making the trip.
