From small-town Iowa to the Super Bowl: Cooper DeJean will play for an NFL championship
TO PHILADELPHIA, IOWANS HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING DEFENSIVE BACK COOPER DEJEAN FOR YEARS, AND NOW WE GET TO SEE THE IOWA NATIVE PLAY IN THE SUPER BOWL. NOBODY IS MORE EXCITED THAN HIS FAMILY. THAT’S SO COOL. vlog. SHANNON EARHART SAT DOWN WITH THEM TO SEE THE JOURNEY THROUGH THEIR EYES. THIS IS COOPER DEJEAN STOMPING GROUNDS RIGHT HERE. WHERE 1500 FANS, MORE THAN THE POPULATION WOULD COME. WATCH THE STAR PLAY. NOW THE DEFENSIVE BACK IS PLAYING IN FRONT OF 83,000 FANS IN THE SUPER BOWL. WE’RE GOING TO GO TO THE SUPER BOWL. WE’RE GOING TO GO TO THE SUPER BOWL. YEAH. IT’S WEIRD. DEFINITELY WEIRD. I MEAN, OBVIOUSLY I’VE GROWN UP WATCHING PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL AND NOW MY BROTHER’S PLAYING IN IT, SO IT’S A LITTLE WEIRD. IT’S SO SURREAL. LIKE SOMETIMES YOU’RE SITTING IN THE STADIUM AND YOU JUST. YOU JUST WONDER, HOW DID WE GET TO THIS POINT? TYPE DEAL. BUT HE’S DONE ALL THE WORK. WE’RE JUST ALONG FOR THE RIDE. COOPER DEJEAN FINISHED HIS CAREER AT IOWA AS A UNANIMOUS ALL-AMERICAN IN THE BIG TEN DEFENSIVE BACK OF THE YEAR. DEJEAN WAS DRAFTED AS THE 40TH OVERALL PICK IN 2020 FOUR. ANY DREAMS POSSIBLE BECAUSE HE CAME FROM A SMALL, YOU KNOW, ONE, A SCHOOL, AND NOW HE’S PLAYING IN THE SUPER BOWL. SO THE PHILADELPHIA EAGLES WENT 14 AND THREE IN THE REGULAR SEASON, WHERE DEJEAN RECORDED 38 SOLO TACKLES AND A FORCED FUMBLE. HE’LL SNAP ME WITH HIS. HIS FRIENDS AND THEIR NFL SUPERSTARS. AND I THINK IT’S JUST WEIRD. IT’S JUST WEIRD THAT I’VE GROWN UP WATCHING THESE GUYS AND NOW BROTHERS, TEAMMATES WITH THEM. HAD YOU BEEN TO PHILADELPHIA BEFORE? NO, NEVER. NO. SO THE PEOPLE THERE ARE GREAT FANS ARE CRAZY IN A GOOD WAY. PASSIONATE. YEAH. THE CITY OF BROTHERLY LOVE SHOWS THEIR PASSION FOR NUMBER 33. JUST LIKE HIS HOMETOWN. I REMEMBER WHEN WE WERE OUT IN PHILADELPHIA, WE SAW ONE FOR THE FIRST TIME, AND IT WAS LIKE, OH, THERE’S A JERSEY. WE GOT TO GO SAY HI TO HIM BECAUSE WE DIDN’T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO. NOW WE SEE MORE AND MORE. SO THAT’S GOOD. SEE HIM EVERYWHERE. SEE, ESPECIALLY AT BASKETBALL GAMES. ALL THESE LITTLE KIDS RUNNING AROUND AND COOPER DEJEAN JERSEYS. AND I THINK IT’S PRETTY COOL. THE OABCIG COMMUNITY WISHED THEIR LOCAL LEGEND LUCK ON THE BIG ONE. GOOD LUCK TONIGHT. GOOD LUCK IN THE BOWL. FINAL FOUR. AND ON HIS BIRTHDAY, COOPER DEJEAN WILL PLAY FOR A SUPER BOWL RING. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO BURT. I’M JUST EXCITED FOR HIM. HE’S JUST LIVING OUT HIS DREAM, I GUESS. SO IT’S IT’S KIND OF SURREAL, BUT IT’S JUST EXCITEMENT. I WOULD SAY. YEAH, JUST A DREAM COME TRUE FOR HIM. I MEAN, HE’S ALWAYS WANTED TO PLAY PROFESSIONAL SPORTS. SO I MEAN, THIS IS HE’S GOING TO THE PINNACLE RIGHT NOW.
