"Show Dogs" is getting recut over concerns about its portrayal of sexual abuse.
The children's film follows the adventures of a Rottweiler police dog named Max, voiced by Ludacris, who goes undercover alongside his human partner, played by Will Arnett, at a prestigious dog show.
and special interest groups, including the , voiced concerns about a specific plot point of the film.
Dawn Hawkins, executive director of the NCSE, even called for Global Road Entertainment, the distribution company, to halt the distribution of the film.
In the movie, Max is advised by a former champion dog to go to his "zen place" in order to get through the dog show's genital inspection. Max is encouraged to become comfortable with strangers touching his genitals.
Bloggers and the NCSE contended this sends a message, especially to the intended audience of the film — children — that inappropriate touching is "OK" so long as you remain relaxed, and that it will become "normal" or even enjoyable overtime.
The points out these are techniques predators use to groom their victims.
As a result, the film's producers, Global Road Entertainment, are now re-cutting the film.
A Global Road Entertainment spokesperson told : "Responding to concerns raised by moviegoers and some specific organizations, Global Road Entertainment has decided to remove two scenes from the film 'Show Dogs' that some have deemed not appropriate for children.
"The company takes these matters very seriously and remains committed to providing quality entertainment for the intended audiences based on the film's rating.
"We apologize to anybody who feels the original version of Show Dogs sent an inappropriate message. The revised version of the film will be available for viewing nationwide starting this weekend."
