Many parents started preparing for the fall and for the back to school season earlier than usual this year. A survey conducted by one poll on behalf of contigo revealed that parents with kids ages 3-13 begin planning for the school year. Back in June in a typical year, it takes 29 days from the end of one school year to begin preparing for the next this year. However, parents started this process almost three weeks sooner than before the pandemic. As a result, 82% of parents feel that summer feels shorter than ever. Some of the reasons why parents are getting things in order so early this year included pandemic related concerns and feeling like it would be more difficult to get into a normal routine after last year, three and 10 also worried that back to school supplies would sell out faster this year, plus 44% say they now have a longer shopping list. The Contigo study found that parents used to have to buy about 10 items, but they are now buying an additional five, which include things like hand sanitizer masks, gloves and antibacterial spray.
