'American Horror Story' is about to get political.
In an appearance on Andy Cohen's "Watch What Happens Live," executive producer Ryan Murphy revealed that the next installment in the horror anthology will tackle the 2016 presidential election.
“Well, I don’t have a title, but the season we begin shooting in June is going to be about the election that we just went through,” Murphy said. “So I think that will be interesting for a lot of people.”
When asked if there would be a Trump character, Murphy coyly responded, "Maybe."
Though it isn't confirmed if the season will be literally based on the election or tangentially related, Murphy has already tackled how social media and reality television can negatively impact someone in the last season, "Roanoke."
This announcement is relatively early in regards to theme announcements. The last season didn't release the theme until the premiere episode.
However, Murphy may have had his back against a wall and announced early for fear of "copy-cat" claims. On Tuesday it was announced that tag-team Mark Boal and Megan Ellison of "Zero Dark Thirty" will be producing a mini-series based on the 2016 election.
Along with AHS, Murphy produces "American Crime Story" and the brand-new "Feud" starring Jessica Lange and Susan Sarandon, which premieres next month.
