Rossen Reports: When to book your holiday flights
You probably haven’t even decided on a Halloween costume yet but it’s time to start holiday shopping for flights!
Expect sticker shock this holiday season when it comes to the prices. If you think last holiday season was bad, a new report from CheapAir.com says this year will be worse. Thanksgiving airfares are going to be up 25% more than last year, while Christmas prices are up by 28%.
Blame the same things as before; airline staffing issues, that peak in jet-fuel prices that happened over the summer and of course, our pent-up demand for travel.
So when should you book? We’re now entering that sweet spot for booking cheaper Thanksgiving flights. It falls between 36 and 72 days before the holiday. So that means now until Oct. 19.
For Christmas, prices dip around 3 to 12 weeks before your travel date. But you know the golden rule is always to book as early as possible.
