Rossen Reports: Inside the office of the future

Rossen Reports: Inside the office of the future
Hi there. We're talking about the office of the future in the beginning of all this, you know, video chats. They brought us all together. We hop on a zoom, we hop on a Skype. We meet with our co workers at a safe distance. Very cool. Very helpful. But now, let's be honest. We're getting video chat fatigue. I'm sick of seeing those little boxes up there. What if you could be in the same room as your co workers interacting with them, pointing at things that they can see showing them videos, having meetings with them all from the comfort and safety of your couch. But you feel like you're together. You can. With this wild technology that may be coming to your office soon. The company is called Spatial. A technology platform creating virtual worlds to use at work. Yeah, this virtual reality headset is really for work. So what do I do? Just come into this room. I can tell you about it, but let me take you inside. Okay? I've never done this before, so we're gonna see what this looks like together, and let me just give you a little behind the scenes. We rented a hotel room for this. I'm in some random hotel room. You can see we've moved the furniture around. We have the lights. That's my producer, Kelli, over their socially distanced running the show. And we want to have this meeting with the head of this company who's in a completely different city. And supposedly I'm just gonna put on this headset VR headset. Whoa. I'm literally in an office right now. This is nuts. We hold on. I see that my hands are down here. These the controllers? Oh, God. It okay, These look like my hands. Okay, so these are my hands and these look like my hands. And I'm in this office. It's so weird. How was I made into an avatar with just this one picture The people that spatial were able to make me go from two D to three D. Jeff Rossen in just seconds. That really looks like me. Hey, Jacob. What's going on, man? That is specials. Vice President Jacob Lowenstein meeting with me from hundreds of miles away. I feel like we're having a face to face meeting a little weird for me because I'm not used to it, but we're having a face to face meeting. This is better than a zoom already for me and I'm home and I'm saying 100%. I mean, people feel like they have a sense of real presence. They feel like they're finally in a room with real people again, and it just turns something on in our brain that says, Okay, this is a real person. I feel more connected with them and now I want to actually do things with them. I could take you into an auditorium. How many people can be in here at once? So we've had upwards of 50 people. This particular room is designed for about 42 people, but, yeah, we you can get quite a large number of people. They have a ton of tools to help run a meeting. If I have a preloaded presentation that I've put together, I can literally that. And just like that, all the information I want to present appears on a wall. If there's two D information, there's a power point. There's even a video here that I could take and play for you, right? This is like an interactive video bulletin board. Exactly. Now if you wanted to also create things and start taking notes on this in real time. So if you click that little button, but what you'll notice is that now where your hand was or where your controller is, there should be like a little piece of chalk. I'm gonna take note, Erin, just like I was in a regular meeting. Exactly. But if you really and then I could take that sticky note, we can make it bigger. We can make it smaller. I could rotate it. I could throw it up on here. Major companies are already using it, including Pfizer and Ford. Mattel is using it to develop toys, bringing up three D models of their designs. Why do you think this is the future of business? Why not just go to the office when Covid is over and see you in person? The biggest companies in the world have said, Even when people are vaccinated and covid is, you know, to some degree over, they're not going back to normal, right? What's actually happening is they're letting people work remote and have their choice. And so, in a world where now employees could work for even the biggest companies in the world. But do it from anywhere. How do you ensure that an organization stays connected and productive and creative when people can no longer just hop into the office and meet? You know, we've all felt this zoom fatigue throughout the year because we've all been working from home. This allows people to really work in an easy way where they feel like they're really together. And you just put the headset on your head and it works and you're transported there instantly. Boom. That's so cool. What's up, by the way, one other cool feature in the auditorium they were telling me it's the same issue as any big meeting you've had. It's annoying people talking over each other. Jim. Over there won't be quiet, except in this virtual world. The host can mute certain people gym or everyone need that in real life. By the way, you can use spatial with any type of virtual reality headset, they say. We'll put this story and all the information about it on our website right now, Ross and reports dot com, my avatar and I probably my avatar. We'll see you soon back to you

Rossen Reports: Inside the office of the future
In the beginning the pandemic, video chats were all the rage. It's been a great way to meet with coworkers at a safe distance, but now we're all starting to suffer from video chat fatigue. Those little boxes don't feel as personal anymore. What if you could be back in the same room as your coworkers, interacting with them and working on a project together all from the comfort and safety of your couch? You can with virtual reality. That's right, virtual reality headsets aren't just for gaming anymore!Spatial is a tech company that creates virtual worlds for companies to use for work. Using virtual reality, you and your coworkers can meet at any time in same virtual room. Think of it this way: They say your room is your computer monitor and your hands are the mouse.Rather than just telling you, see it for yourself. Watch the video above to see chief national consumer correspondent Jeff Rossen test out this wild technology firsthand. With just one picture, Spatial was able to create a 3D avatar of Jeff in seconds. Once he put on the virtual reality headset, he met with the company's vice president and head of business, Jacob Loewenstein. In the real world, they're hundreds of miles away. But in Spatial, they met in the same room for a face-to-face meeting."People feel like they have a sense of real presence. They feel like they're finally in a room with real people again. It just turns something on in our brains that says I feel more connected with them and now I actually want to do things with them," Loewenstein says. The location of the meeting can change from an office to a conference to an auditorium. And if you're looking to get fancy, you can even meet at an expensive mountain lodge ... without having to pay money for it!Tools to run meetings are available as well. Presentations can be loaded in and presented on an interactive bulletin wall. From PowerPoints, diagrams, pictures and videos. Internet searches can also be done in real time inside the room. Coworkers can jot down notes and stick them to the wall. There's even a feature that will let you speak the notes into existence so that the meeting notes can be easily transcribed. And yes, there are mute buttons in the virtual world, too!Major companies, including Pfizer and Ford, are already using this technology. Mattel is using it to develop toys.
