Putin supports idea of 30-day ceasefire with Ukraine, but signals more work to do
Russian President Vladimir Putin has agreed in principle to a US-proposed 30-day ceasefire with Ukraine, but says the terms still need to be worked out. In a news conference Thursday, Putin emphasized the need for a mechanism to control possible breaches of the deal and expressed concerns about Ukraine using the ceasefire to mobilize and rearm. "He put out a very promising statement, but it wasn't complete, and yeah, I'd love to meet with him or talk to him, but we have to get it over with fast. You know, everyday people are being killed," President Donald Trump said.Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, is in Moscow following Ukraine's agreement to the ceasefire earlier this week. Trump described the talks as positive and said many details of a final agreement have already been discussed, adding if Russia doesn't agree, it would be a "disappointing moment for the world."
