TV prices are coming down before the 2025 models hit stores, so nowā€™s the time to get one for a great price.

The beginning of the year is always an important time if youā€™re in the market for a new . All the major TV-makers announce the next yearā€™s new TVs at CES in January, then February has multiple major sales events where retailers try to sell as many TVs as they can before those new models come out, including the Super Bowl and Presidents Day. While there are always new features in each successive wave of TVs, getting a great TV on sale is often worth it to forgo the newest, shiniest options that will roll out in the spring and summer. If thatā€™s your plan this week, Iā€™ve picked out a few of the most exciting TV deals in the run-up to Presidents Day.

Iā€™ll be keeping an eye on the sales, too, with updates as new deals pop up (or sell out) ahead of the holiday.

The Best Presidents Day TV Sales

  • Great news: Most of our favorite OLED TVs, including the and , are currently on sale in specific sizes.
  • Our Best Value TV, the 65-inch , is down 40 percent to around $900.
  • Not looking to spend too much? Thereā€™s a available for less than $500.
The Expert: Iā€™m a Senior Commerce Editor for Popular Mechanics, Runnerā€™s World, and Best Products, where I research and test the best things you can buy. Prior to joining PM, I was a technology and gaming critic for 10 years, with bylines at Popular Science, PCMag, Gizmodo, IGN, and Digital Trends, among others. Iā€™ve eyeballed my fair share of TVs, and just about every kind of computer/console/streaming device that youā€™d plug into them.

Shopping Presidents Day TV Sales: What to Consider

Picking a TV can be as simple or as complex as you want it to be. If you want to get into the nitty gritty, scouring for sharpest contrast and widest color gamut, that is a highly technical rabbit hole thatā€™s absolutely fascinatingā€¦ And will likely lead you to buy a specific set, rather than chasing down a good deal. Right now, though, weā€™re shopping sales: That means picking the best of whatā€™s on offer. That said, you should not compromise too much, either: Here are a few things I recommend keeping in mind.

Pick the TV that fits your home

Believe it or not, there is actually a right and wrong answer to the age-old question, ā€œwhat size TV should I buy?ā€ According to (SMPTE), your TV should take up between 30 and 40 percent of your field of view when sitting directly in front of it. There are two things you can adjust to create that range: The size of your TV and the distance between your TV and your seat.

Since most people donā€™t rearrange their furniture to fit their TV, that means you should pick the size of your TV based on how far you sit from it. The SMPTE says your TVā€™s height (not diagonal) should be approximately one third the distance between the screen and the viewer. Personally, Iā€™d say youā€™re better off popping it into a TV size calculator like this one from and it will tell you what you need.

And if what you get isnā€™t a standard TV size? Round up a bit. (I know Iā€™d rather be a bit overwhelmed, than underwhelmed, yā€™know?)

To OLED or Not to OLED

If you have the budget, I recommend looking for an or Hybrid OLED (QD-OLED) TV. Organic Light-Emitting Diode, or OLED, is a display technology that creates better color and contrast: Rather than using LED lighting elements behind the panel like in an LED TV, each pixel in an OLED TV lights up individually, and can be turned off individually. This creates a ā€œtrue blackā€ when the screen is dark and creates a sharper, more vivid picture.

OLED TVs will, across the board, be more expensive than standard LED or enhanced QLED TVs, but I generally think the improved picture quality is worth the extra scratch.

Best Overall

U8 Series 65-inch Mini-LED TV

amazon.com
$1,147.99
$948.65

Named ā€œBest Valueā€ here on our , the Hisense U8-Series features a mini-LED backlit LED panel that gets incredibly bright, delivering a clear picture with bold color. Itā€™s an especially enticing picture when you consider that the 65-inch version is on sale for around $900, which is about $600 off its list price.

Getting a 65-inch TV with a premium display technology like mini-LED for less than a grand is always a good deal. Getting one of the best? Itā€™s an absolute steal.

2
Best OLED

evo G4 55-Inch OLED TV

amazon.com
$2,599.99
$1,696.99

Most TV critics, myself included, usually steer folks toward LG's mid-range C-series OLED TVs, which generate a gorgeous image and usually donā€™t cost a fortune. The LG G4 actually offers a better, brighter display than the C4, but doesnā€™t get as many accolades because of its high price.

With a 23 percent price cut, though, that gap is a little smaller right now. Itā€™s still quite a bit more expensive than most, to be sure, but itā€™s a worthy splurge if you want the best of the best.

3
Best for Gaming

Z85A 55-Inch OLED TV

amazon.com
$999.99

After taking a few years off from releasing new TVs in the U.S., Panasonic made a big splash with its return in 2024, launching a trio of new TVs, including a pair of OLED that have garnered a lot of praise from critics. The Z85A is the less expensive of the two, comparable to the LG C-series, and has gained a reputation as an especially bright mid-range OLED TV.

Itā€™s flush with gaming features, as many new high-end TVs are, including HDMI 2.1 support and a 120Hz refresh rate to support high framerates, HDR10+ support for high-dynamic range, and both G-Sync and Freesync variable refresh rates to enable smooth animation for PC players.

Candidly, I havenā€™t tried this one myself, but Panasonic is the brand Iā€™m most interested in testing right now and this set is the model Iā€™d choose (especially at this price).

Best Samsung TV

S95D 55-Inch OLED TV

amazon.com
$2,397.99
$1,797.99

Samsungā€™s OLED high-end OLED currently holds the crown as our best gaming TV. Itā€™s been temporarily dethroned in this guide because, even with a 20 percent discount, it costs nearly $2,000, making it a serious investment. After holding off from making OLEDs for many years, Samsung rapidly earned a reputation for making some of the sharpest, brightest screens around.

Like the Panasonic Z85A, though, it supports all the key gaming-focused features we look for, including a 144Hz refresh rate and variable refresh rate, plus support for Samsung Gaming Hub, which allows you to access Cloud gaming services like Xbox Game Pass without a console. Like LG G4, this is an elite TV that comes at an elite price, but itā€™s a bit more attainable right now.

5
Best Small TV

evo C4 42-Inch OLED TV

amazon.com
$896.99

The LG C4 would usually be my go-to recommendation, but sales are fairly minor now. The most appealing price cut is on the 42-inch version, which has dropped just below $900. The C4 has earned a place on nearly every ā€œbest TVā€ list year after year by offering an ultra-sharp OLED picture at a relatively accessible price.

Small TVs, especially high-quality small TVs, arenā€™t as common as they used to be. If you need a smaller screen for a smaller space (like a bedroom), this is the move.

6
Best TV Under $500

Q681G 65-Inch QLED TV

amazon.com
$649.99
$479.99

TCL has become a dominant name in the world of TVs by bringing premium features to sub-$1,000 sets. Case in point, the Q681G is a mid-range QLED TV, which features Quantum Dot technology to enhance the color and brightness of a standard LED screen.

Though not quite as impressive as the OLEDs on this list, youā€™ll still get a sharp, precise picture, while spending around half as much as you would on our other picks. Meanwhile, it too offers a 120Hz refresh rate and HDR 10+ for gaming. This is proof that, with the right deal, you can get a great TV on any budget.
