Rossen Reports: You may need a new phone charger…again.
The European Union adopted a new ruling that could have a major effect over here in the U.S.
The common charger law means that by 2024, electronic devices including cell phones and tablets will need to have USB-C charging as the universal standard charger in Europe.
According to reports, Apple executives say they have to adapt their products now to that standard.
If tech companies are adapting manufacturing in Europe, it could mean those changes will happen globally as well.
While there are no laws here about chargers, some lawmakers have pushed for them. The EU hopes this new ruling will reduce e-waste and make it easier for people to buy new phones and tablets without having to purchase new chargers as well.
