GOVERNOR STITT SAYS THIS BAN APPLIES TO ANY AGENCY’S EMPLOYEES OR CONTRACTORS ON GOVERNMENT ISSUED DEVICES OR NETWORKS, BUT HE ALSO SAYS EVERYONE SHOULD TAKE A LOOK AT APP ITSELF. AND IS THERE ANOTHER WAY THAT THEY COULD REACH OUT TO TWO DIFFERENT USERS? OUTSIDE OF THIS THIS PLATFORM THEY’RE DEFINITELY NOT GOING TO DO IT THROUGH THROUGH NETWORKS OR THROUGH OUR STATE STATE PHONES. STITT SAYS THAT HE KNOWS SOME GOVERNMENT AGENCIES HAVE TIKTOK ACCOUNTS AND HE’S WORKING THROUGH NEXT STEPS FOR THEM. THE FBI DIRECTOR RECENTLY SPOKE ON THEIR CONCERNS OVER WHO CONTROLS TIKTOK. WE DO HAVE NATIONAL SECURITY, AT LEAST FROM THE FBI’S END, ABOUT TIK TOK. THEY INCLUDE THE POSSIBILITY THAT THE CHINESE GOVERNMENT COULD USE IT TO CONTROL DATA COLLECTION ON MILLIONS OF USERS OR CONTROL THE RECOMMENDATION ALGORITHM WHICH COULD BE USED FOR INFLUENCE OPERATION. TIK TOK IS OWNED BY A CHINESE COMPANY CALLED DANCE, AND THE GOVERNOR SAYS HE SHARES WITH THE FBI THAT THIS COULD BE A PROBLEM CYBERSECURITY. HE SAYS THEY’LL USE A FIREWALL METHOD TO ENSURE THIS EXECUTIVE IS FOLLOWED. WE’RE GOING TO MAKE SURE THAT WE DIAL IN TO ANY STATE EMPLOYEE THROUGH OUR NETWORK. CAN’T DIAL IN. IT’S GOING TO BE BANNED OFF OF OUR STATE PHONES. STITT ALSO SAYS HE SUPPORTS A BROADER BAN ON THE APP IN GENERAL. WE’RE OBVIOUSLY LISTENING TO THE FBI AND THE EXPERTS NATIONALLY ON WHAT THE CONCERNS ARE, AND I’LL CONTINUE TO ENCOURAGE OUR LEGISLATURE TO MAYBE TAKE A HARDER LOOK AT IT NEXT NEXT YEAR. Gov. Kevin Stitt on Thursday issued an executive order banning TikTok for state government agencies, employees and contractors on government networks or government-issued devices.Stitt's office said in a news release that the executive order is in response to ongoing national and cybersecurity threats created by TikTok."Maintaining the cybersecurity of state government is necessary to continue to serve and protect Oklahoma citizens and we will not participate in helping the Chinese Communist Party gain access to government information,” Stitt said in the news release.The devices included in the ban are state-issued cellphones, computers or any other device capable of internet capability.TikTok is owned by Beijing-based tech company ByteDance.Click here to read the executive order.
