Nikki Haley wins Super Tuesday election in Vermont despite losing elsewhere to Trump
Former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley scored a surprise victory on Super Tuesday, upsetting Donald Trump to win Vermont.
That victory will do little to dent Trump’s primary dominance, however. The former president won 11 other states on Super Tuesday.
Despite her win, hours after the last polls closed in Alaska, Haley scheduled a 10 a.m. ET speech in her home state of South Carolina to announce she was suspending her campaign. Three people with direct knowledge who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they weren’t authorized to speak publicly confirmed Haley’s decision ahead of her announcement.
Haley, who has argued both President Joe Biden and Trump are too old to return to the White House, has argued that Trump will lose in November to Biden if he clinches the party’s nomination.
On the Democratic side, Biden also ran up the score with wins all around the country against only token primary opposition — all but cementing the long-expected November rematch between him and Trump.
