HE IMMEDIATELY, YOU KNOW, TRIED TO SEE WHAT HE COULD DO. AND I TRIED TO HELP HIM. AND IT GOT BAD. THIS IS WHERE IT STARTED. AND IT HAPPENED SO FAST. YOU SO COVER ME, ME WITH YOUR GLORY. KASHMIR SAYS SHE IMMEDIATELY GRABBED HER ONE YEAR OLD DAUGHTER AND CALLED 911. THE HOME BADLY DAMAGED AND COMPLETELY UNLIVABLE. SHE’S JUST THANKFUL FOR NO LIFE LOST. WE WERE EXHAUSTED. A well-known singer in New Orleans, Louisiana, and former contestant on "The Voice" lost everything in a fire at her home over the weekend. Casmè Barnes-Carter, known professionally as Casmè, said she, her husband and her 1-year-old daughter had just made it back in town from a family vacation. Hours later, she smelled smoke and immediately alerted her husband. "He went into the hallway. Opened our son's room. Saw smoke. He immediately tried to see what he could do. I tried helping. It got bad," Barnes-Carter said.Barnes-Carter said she immediately grabbed her 1-year-old daughter and called 911. The home was badly damaged and is completely unlivable. She said she was just thankful for no life lost. "We were exhausted that night. So had we just went straight to sleep, we would have missed it. We may not be here. God's hands were definitely in the midst of this protecting us," Barnes-Carter said. The community is helping out by donating to the family. "It really warms my heart because right now, it's still surreal. I really do not have a home right now. We can't live there. It's a lot going on. So any help has been a blessing," Barnes-Carter said. The singer urged everyone to remember to check the batteries in their smoke detectors and to keep fire extinguishers in their homes.
