BOBBY TERRAZAS WAS DIAGNOSED WITH STAGE 3 BREAST CANCER, AND SHE WASN’T SURE IF SHE’D LIVE TO LLTE HER STORY. I THINK MY HEALTH JUST IT TOOK KIND OF A TURN FORHE T WORST. SO TO SPEAK I DON’T THINK PEOPLE REALIZE I’VE KNOWN PEOPLE THAT HA D CANCER MY MOM HAD CANCER UNTIL YOU ACTUALLY GO THROUGH IT YOURSELF. IT’S A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT ANIMAL THAT ANIMAL BROUGHT ITS UPS. IT’S DOWNS AND MANY CANCER TREAENTMTS AS WELL AS SURGERIES. I DIDN’T REALIZE THE TOILET WAS GOING TO TAKE ON MY BYOD TO THE POINT WHERE I COULDN’T ENVE DRESS MYSELF A WOMANHO W RESPONDS TO YOUR EMERGENCIES FACING HERWN O ON TOP OF FIGHTING BREAST CANCER. SHE GOT COVID-19. OH TRYING TO AVOID PEOPLE TO STAY HEALTHY. I WAS DOING THE BEST I COULD AND STILL END UPED GETTING SICK. BUT THEN THIS YEAR SHE STARTED MAKING CHANGES TRYING T DO WHAT CAN TO BTEA CANCER MY DIET NUTRITION MY PHYSICAL FITNESS TRYING TO JUST GET MY STRENGTH BACK AND IT TOOK ME A WHILE, BUT I MEAN, I’M HERE I’M BACK. SHE LOST A 44 POUNDS AND IS BACK IN HER UNIFORM HER MOTIVATION HER SON. JUST WANTING TO MAKE SURE THAT I’M HERE FOR HIM FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE AND AND BE HERE WHEN HE’S GOING TO NEED ME RIGHT AND GETTING BACK INTO HER ORIGILNA UNIFORM FROM 2019 PROUDLY DONNING THE BADGE. THIS YEAR’S STETA FAIR. NOW HER GOAL IS HELNGPI OTHERS, I THINK BECAUSE IT’S HARD TO ASK FOR HELP WHEN YOU’RE GOING THROUGH SOMETHING. I KNOW IT WAS FOR ME. IT WAS HARDOR F ME TO GET TO TO WHEER I WAS AT AND ENVE JUST FINDING DIRECTION FINDING MOTIVATION FINDING SOMETHING THAT WAS GNAON WANT ME TO STAY ALIVE. SHE SAYS SHE WAS OVERWHELMED BY THE OUTPOURING OF SUPPORT TTHA SHE GOT FROM PEOPLE INER H OWN COMMUNITY AND PEOPLE ACROSS THE COUNTRY. SHE NOW HOPES HER STORY CAN SPINIRE OTHERS AND HELP OTHERS. A veteran officer with New Mexico State Police has beaten cancer.Sister station KOAT first talked to Officer Bobbie Terrazas in 2019 when she was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. After a two-year battle, she is completely cancer free."I can honestly tell you getting cancer, and this is going to sound crazy, but getting cancer was probably the best thing that's ever happened to me," Officer Bobbie Terrazas said.At one point, she did not think she would live to share her story."I think my health, it took a turn for the worst, so to speak. I don't think people realize I've know people that have had cancer. My mom had cancer, and until you go through it yourself, it's a completely different animal," Officer Terrazas said.Cancer brought its ups, its downs, many treatments as well as surgeries."I didn't realize the toll it was going to take on my body, to the point where I couldn't even dress myself," Terrazas said.A woman who responds to emergencies, now had one of her own. "I can honestly tell you getting cancer, and this is going to sound crazy, but getting cancer was probably the best thing that's ever happened to me," Officer Bobbie Terrazas said.

At one point, she did not think she would live to share her story.

"I think my health, it took a turn for the worst, so to speak. I don't think people realize I've know people that have had cancer. My mom had cancer, and until you go through it yourself, it's a completely different animal," Officer Terrazas said.

Cancer brought its ups, its downs, many treatments as well as surgeries.

"I didn't realize the toll it was going to take on my body, to the point where I couldn't even dress myself," Terrazas said.

A woman who responds to emergencies, now had one of her own. While fighting cancer, she caught COVID-19.

"Trying to avoid people to stay healthy. I was doing the best I could and still ended up getting sick," Officer Terrazas said.

But then in February of this year, she decided she needed to make changes, doing what she could to beat cancer.

"My diet, my nutrition, my physical fitness, trying to just get my strength back and it took me awhile, but I am here and I'm back," Officer Terrazas said.

She lost roughly 44 pounds and is back in uniform. Terrazas told KOAT that her motivation is her son. Niko was 2 years old when she was received her diagnosis.

"Just wanting to make sure that I am here for him for the rest of his life and be here when he is going to need me," Officer Terrazas said.

Her other goal was fitting back in her old uniform from 2019.

She proudly wore it at this year's New Mexico State Fair.

Terrazas said her goal now is to help others.

"I think because it's hard to ask for help when you are going through something. I know it was for me. It was hard for me to get to where I was at and even just finding direction, finding motivation and finding something that was going to want me to stay alive," Officer Terrazas said.
