Fat-shaming Santa tells 9-year-old to "lay off the hamburgers and french fries"

The child's mother wants the Santa fired

A North Carolina mother says a Santa Claus who insulted her son deserved to be fired. No, the jolly old elf didn't leave him a lump of coal, but an ugly, fat-shaming comment. Ashley Mayse said her 9-year-old son, Anthony, started to cry after he told the Forest City Santa Claus what he wanted for Christmas. “When I got done, he said, ‘Lay off the hamburgers and French fries, and that really just disrespected me and I felt awful," Anthony said. Anthony said he cried himself to sleep over the Santa’s comment. Anthony’s mother said she wanted the city to fire the Santa. The town manager said the Santa apologized to both a supervisor and the Mayse family. Anthony said he tore up his photo with Santa and will take his Christmas elsewhere next year. Forest City officials released a statement that said: “On Saturday, Dec. 3, the individual who played Santa Claus at the Santa House in Forest City made a remark that he regretted. “He apologized to the parent, the child and the town. A town representative spoke to the mother on Monday and also apologized. “On Tuesday, that individual who portrayed Santa Claus and was scheduled for the next two Fridays and Saturdays has informed the town he would no longer provide his service as Santa to the town.
