NASCAR driver and Indiana native Chase Briscoe gives away 700 bikes to hometown kids
STORY. REPORTER MITCHELL, INDIANA NATIVE NASCAR DRIVER CHASE BRISCOE SAYS HE USED TO RIDE HIS HUFFY BIKE ALL THROUGH THE STREETS OF MITCHELL, SO WHAT BETTER WAY TO GIVE BACK TO YOUR HOMETOWN THAN BY GIVING AWAY 700 OF THEM? IT’S WILD. I DIDN’T KNOW WHAT 700 BIKES WOULD LOOK LIKE. IT’S CRAZY. THEY’VE HAD THEM STUFFED IN CLOSETS AND EVERYTHING ELSE. BRISCOE SAYS THE IDEA CAME TO HIM A FEW MONTHS AGO TO GIVE EVERY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENT IN HIS HOMETOWN A BIKE FOR CHRISTMAS, SO HIS TEAM, STEWART-HAAS RACING AND HUFFY, MADE IT HAPPEN. I WANT KIDS TO BE ACTIVE AND OUTDOORS AND THINGS LIKE THAT, AND I FEEL LIKE THIS IS A GREAT WAY TO DO THAT. SO HOPEFULLY THEY’RE ALL ENJOYING IT AS MUCH AS I DID. ON MONDAY, BRISCOE AND HIS TEAM FILLED THE MITCHELL HIGH SCHOOL GYM WITH BRAND NEW BIKES AND AND HAPPY FAMILIES. IT’S LIKE A SEA OF THEM OUT THERE. THEY’RE ALL COLORS AND I MEAN JUST SO SHINY AND BEAUTIFUL. I MEAN, SHE’S NOT HAD A NEW BIKE IN PROBABLY EVER SO THIS IS REALLY COOL. I’VE GOT THIS FEELING MITCHELL IS GOING TO TURN INTO HUFFY U-S-A. THE SUPERINTENDENT OF MITCHELL SCHOOLS, DOCTOR BRANT COMER, SAYS THE ENTIRE CITY CAME TOGETHER TO HELP WITH THE PROCESS FROM PUTTING THE BIKES TOGETHER FOR TO DISTRIBUTING THEM. THEY ASSEMBLED 700 BICYCLES IN PROBABLY LESS THAN THREE DAYS. TO DO THAT IS REMARKABLE. AND IT’S JUST WHAT A GIFT TO THIS COMMUNITY. WHERE ELSE IS THIS HAPPEN LIKE THIS? I MEAN, THERE’S BIKES GALORE IN HERE AND THERE’S GOING TO BE SOME VERY HAPPY KIDS. CHRISTMAS. AND YEAH, I WILL CHASE, YOU KNOW? BRISCOE SAYS ALTHOUGH HE NOW LIVES IN CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA, HIS SMALL HOMETOWN IN INDIANA, STILL HAS HIS HEART AND HE’S PROUD TO GIVE BACK TO IT. SOME SOME OF THESE KIDS MIGHT NOT EVEN EVER HAVE A BIKE, SO TO BE ABLE TO GIVE THEM THEIR FIRST BIKE AND LET THEM KIND OF HAVE SOME OF THOSE SAME MEMORIES I HAD, IS REALLY SPECIAL FOR MITCHELL, INDI
