Mom fed up of tidying up after her kids reveals why she's stopped in powerful post

All parents will relate to her important message about self-care

One mother's powerful post about the moment she snapped and decided she would stop tidying up after her children has quickly gone viral after it resonated with hundreds of fed up parents on social media. Sharing the reasoning behind her decision in a post on the motherhood blog Her View From Here's Facebook page, Heidi Hamm explained how she has learned to let things go and practise more self-care.In the post, Hamm shows a photo of her children's playroom, littered with toys. Her caption reads simply, "Today I shut a door. On this."For years I would spend a few minutes every night, cleaning up after my kids. I would hate to calculate just how many hours of my life have been spent picking up toys. A heck of a lot. Too many."After explaining that she has always loved having a clean and tidy house, the mum added that she has finally learned to accept that her kids are "messy" – and has given up trying to fight it..."I love them. So much. They're amazing little humans," she writes. "But they're messy. And they don't care. I don't get it. Clearly they are lacking in the clean gene department."Revealing the moment that finally made her snap, Hamm explains that her husband was the one who taught her to take a step back and let the mess be. "One night my husband found me on my hands and knees, color coordinating the Lego," she says. "Did I mention I like things organized? I was exhausted. Which is a common state for me."'Why don't you just shut the door?' He asked. I stared up at him. It's possible it was more of a glare. I had been expecting him to join me on the floor, sifting through the mountain of Lego. Instead he offered me those seven words. Apparently It was all I needed. I got up and closed the door."Hamm finishes by encouraging all parents with a perfectionist streak that self-care is important – and that sometimes you just have to put yourself first..."Self care is hiding a stash of chocolate bars and keeping them all for yourself," she writes. "Self care is turning on Netflix for the kids so you can drink your coffee. Hot. Self care is putting the kids to bed early and cuddling with hubby on the couch.Self care is closing a door."She concludes her powerful message with: "So now? The kids clean the play room once a week. Not me. Them. The other 95% of the time? It looks like this. And that's okay. "Her post clearly resonated with plenty of mothers out there; "HOORAY for shutting doors!" wrote one person, while another added, "'Yes! Needed this today. As I sit at work and think how the house is mess but we had a fun fun weekend out and about."
