Explaining the misspelling on Corey Comperatore’s firefighting jacket
The name of Corey Comperatore, the former fire chief killed at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania, is misspelled on the jacket brought to President Donald Trump's inauguration parade on Monday in Washington, D.C.

The misspelling on the jacket, instead says "Compertore." When the jacket was displayed this summer at the Republican National Convention, the Buffalo Township Volunteer Fire Company confirmed it was his gear and that it was sent to Trump, which the former president shared in his speech accepting the Republican Party's nomination for president.
While the volunteer fire department gave no reason for the misspelling, it responded to a reader who pointed out the mistake on its Facebook page, noting that it “was in error years ago, and it was left that way by Corey.”
Comperatore died at a Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, as he shielded other family members in attendance from gunfire that also struck Trump. The shooting was investigated as an assassination attempt.
