There's a new tech-savvy home in Ames that looks like a perfect fit for someone who wants to be Inspector Gadget. Mediacom unveiled its new 10G home. The internet service there can handle 10 gigabytes of data. That's lightning-fast internet, so the home can handle up to 80 devices at one time. It includes ultra-high-def TVs to 3D glasses, and even a robot dog.J.R. Walden is the Mediacom senior vice president of technology."We have 80 connected things in this home. That may seem excessive, but you might be surprised how many homes in four or five years ... have 40 or 50 connected devices. I don't think it as far-fetched as people realize, and all of those things are using the internet. Maybe, any one of them doesn't need a lot of bandwidth, but 50 at one time does start to add up," Walden said.The Mediacom smart home is part of a field trial of the future 10G system.
