Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson's character in 'Moana' was based off a very special person in his life

While Maui in "Moana" might be played by Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson – and bears a slight passing resemblance – Disney's new hot demigod was actually inspired by Dwayne's grandfather.
Dwayne revealed the "lil' Disney gem of a secret" on to fans earlier today, and it's one of the coolest Disney secrets we've heard in a long time.
After a shared a photo of Johnson's grandfather side-by-side with Maui, Johnson chimed in with some background.
"A lil' @Disney gem of a secret, my character Maui was partly inspired by my late grandfather, High Chief Peter Maivia of Samoa," he wrote, "#grateful".
When you look at the two next to each other, the link between the character and High Chief Peter Maivia is undeniable. It must have been quite an experience for Johnson to get to portray someone based off his own grandfather!
