Scott Nash, Mom's Organic Market founder and owner, has blogged about his family eating expired food and is encouraging others to do so, too.That's because the Food and Drug Administration says Americans throw out the equivalent of $165 billion in food each year.The administration says a lot of it is done by consumers because of misunderstandings of food product labels."I feel like we could reduce so much waste if we just had smart food dating systems," Nash says.His family ate food past its product date labels to show it was safe, and the food industry is working toward a better way of labeling food items so the dates don't cause misunderstandings.Tap the video above to find out more on product advisories and what to pay attention to.
