Man sues Apple after he says phone exploded in pocket

A South Carolina man has filed a lawsuit against Apple after his iPhone exploded in his pocket, which he said caused severe burns to his body.In a lawsuit filed this week, Ronnie Portee, of Sumter, South Carolina, said he underwent five surgeries since the incident, reports The (Columbia, South Carolina) State.In October 2016, Portee ended a phone call and placed the iPhone 6 in his pocket. He then felt “extreme heat,” according to the lawsuit, burning his flesh and clothing.The explosion caused injuries so severe that he was airlifted to a hospital that has a burn center.“As a result of his iPhone explosion ... (Portee) will continue to suffer both physically and emotionally for the rest of his life,” according to the suit. “Mr. Portee also has to live with the permanent scarring he suffered.”Portee is seeking damages in excess of $75,000.
