A 45-year-old California man (yep, you read that correctly) on mobile MMO title “Game of War.” The accused, Kevin Lee Co, pled guilty to charges of money laundering and wire fraud on Thursday. Co stole $4.8 million between 2008 to 2015 from Holt, a heavy equipment dealer based in Pleasant Grove, California.
Co also used the money to purchase luxury cars, tickets to San Francisco 49ers football games, tickets to Sacramento Kings basketball games, and – the best part – plastic surgery. Co worked in Holt’s accounting department from 2006 to 2015. He faces up to 20 years in prison, plus a fine of up to $250,000.
“Game of War,” aka “Game of War: Fire Age” reached Android and Apple mobile phones in 2013. It’s a freemium game, which means it doesn’t cost anything to download, but in-app purchases for virtual items and upgrades apply. It was the third highest-grossing game for the iPhone through 2014. , it was one of the top ten most downloaded apps in Google Play and the iOS Appstore.
