After a messy second season, True Detective went on hiatus in the summer of 2015 to figure itself out. Then in March, it was announced that creator Nic Pizzolatto had teamed up with Deadwood and NYPD Blue creator David Milch to work on the third season. The good news continued, as rumors spread that Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali was in talks to play the lead in the third season.Now, it has finally been confirmed, and True Detective Season Three is already shaping up pretty nicely."I've read five scripts for a third season and I think they're terrific," HBO's president of programming Casey Bloys said at the Television Critics Association summer press event. "We have a deal with Mahershala Ali to play lead.
