Saturday is a day Luke Lachey has been dreaming about. Growing up, however, it was always assumed he would be a Buckeye. His dad, Jim Lachey, was an All-American at Ohio State and has been the radio color commentator for 28 years. Luke is about the only Lachey that isn't a Buckeye."His three sisters all went to Ohio State. I went to Ohio State. My wife went to Ohio State, uncles, cousins," Jim Lachey said. "It's all he really knew. If he had time off on a Saturday and there was a Buckeye football game, he was gonna go."Luke Lachey has endless memories of tailgating and attending games."I really enjoyed the Ohio State-Michigan game in 2016 when they went to double OT," Luke Lachey said. "My brother and I stormed the field. It was really cool."When the time came, Ohio State offered Luke Lachey a gray shirt — not a true full ride as Iowa did. But Luke Lachey's not the kind of guy to hold a grudge against his beloved Buckeyes."Anyone's dream growing up in Columbus was playing at Ohio State, but I am so fortunate to have ended up a Hawkeye," Luke Lachey said. "Out of high school, I was nowhere near a finished product. Everyone's dream is to play in the Horseshoe. Now, I have the unique opportunity to play with my teammates at Iowa. So looking forward to it."Luke Lachey was a backup in 2022 when he played here. Now he's an All-Big Ten captain. This is a day the Lachey family has been waiting for. "I'm very excited for my family," Jim Lachey said. "My 91-year-old father will be at the game. He's excited about that."Luke Lachey has gone from storming the field as a fan to playing on it."It's cool," he said. "It's a different perspective for sure, and I'm just super excited to swarm out there with my teammates and have a great day."If Luke Lachey makes a big play, how will Jim Lachey react on the Ohio State radio broadcast? The same way we all would."I'll probably cheer. I'll probably shed a tear while cheering."
