When a call for a doctor on a flight went unanswered, two medical students stepped in to help
Louisiana State University Health New Orleans is praising two of its students for helping a passenger who fell ill on a flight.
The LSU Health Sciences Center says two medical students on a flight to Greece stepped in when there was a medical emergency onboard.
A call went out for medical professionals, and when no one responded, Heather Duplessis and Lauren Bagneris identified themselves as medical students and assisted a female passenger.
The passenger had become lightheaded and fell due to low blood sugar and being overheated, LSU Health said.
Duplessis and Bagneris calmed the patient and got her to take some juice and food and cooled her off. The two students communicated with a doctor on the ground and took her blood pressure, pulse and blood sugar.
LSU Health says the patient ended up feeling much better and credits the two talented doctors in the making and their LSU medical education.
