Tornado practically rips Kentucky barn in half with man, several animals inside
INSIDE WHEN THE STORM RIPPED THROUGH HIS HOME. IS THAT RIGHT? YEAH, RICK, I DID, AND WHAT’S INTERESTING, IF YOU LOOK HERE, IT LOOKS LIKE, YOU KNOW, A NORMAL HOUSE. BUT TAKE JUST A COUPLE STEPS THIS WAY AND YOU CAN SEE IT DEFINITELY LOOKS LIKE A TORNADO RIPPED RIGHT THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF THIS BUILDING. NOW, INSIDE HERE IS WHERE JUSTIN PARSLEY AND HIS DOG WERE ACTUALLY IN WHEN THE TORNADO CAME THROUGH. AND JUSTIN TELLS ME IT WAS AN EXPERIENCE HE WILL NEVER FORGET. I GUESS ALL YOU CAN DO IS FEEL GRATEFUL. I MEAN, I KNOW IT’S IT’S A LOSS, BUT I JUST KIND OF FEEL GRATEFUL TO BE HONEST. AS JUSTIN PARSLEY SURVEYS THE DAMAGE LEFT BY SUNDAY NIGHT’S STORM, HE SAYS HE’S JUST HAPPY HE, HIS DOG AND THE EIGHT HORSES THAT LIVE IN THIS BARN ARE ALL OKAY. MY FIRST THOUGHT IS WE GOT TO CHECK ON THE ANIMALS. YOU KNOW, HE WAS IN THE HOUSE WITH ME. MY LITTLE DOG. AND ONCE I FOUND THE ANIMALS WAS OKAY. IT’S JUST KIND OF OVERWHELMING. IT’S JUST HARD TO BELIEVE IT HAPPENED JUST BEFORE TEN. PARSLEY SAYS IT STARTED TO RAIN. NOT LONG AFTER THAT, IT BECAME EERILY QUIET AND THE RAIN STOPPED. THEN HE SAYS HE HEARD THE SOUND OF A FREIGHT TRAIN. I REALLY DIDN’T KNOW WHAT WAS HAPPENING. I THOUGHT, IN ALL HONESTY, WHEN I WAS BEHIND THE COUCH COVERED UP WITH THE DOG. I THOUGHT IT JUST BLEW THE GARAGE DOOR OFF. AND THEN THE WIND WAS BLOWING THROUGH THE GARAGE. MIGHT HAVE TOOK THE ROOF OFF. IT FELT LIKE IT LASTED 3 OR 4 MINUTES, BUT IN REALITY IT PROBABLY 30S. THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE CONFIRMED ON MONDAY THAT AN EF ONE TORNADO TORE THROUGH THE BARN PARSLEY LIVES IN, WITH MORE THAN 100 MILE PER HOUR WINDS. TREES ALONG BEECH GROVE ROAD NEAR PARSLEY’S HOME WERE SNAPPED IN HALF. THERE’S PARTS OF THIS SHOP PROBABLY A MILE BECAUSE OF THE COLOR OF THE METAL AND THE INSULATION THAT’S ON IT. I MEAN, IT’S THERE’S PARTS OF IT WE’VE SEEN A MILE ON ANOTHER ROAD AWAY FROM HERE. IT WAS CRAZY. PARSLEY SAYS HIS STEPBROTHER OWNS THE BARN AND USES IT FOR STORAGE. THEY STORED THEIR TRUCKS AND HORSE TRAILERS INSIDE IT SUNDAY NIGHT, ANTICIPATING THE STORM. NOW THEY’RE SORTING THROUGH WHAT CAN BE SALVAGED. GOD IS GREAT BECAUSE WE LOST A LOT. BUT WE’RE VERY LUCKY. NOT ONE ANIMAL WAS EVEN GOT A SCRATCH. NOBODY WAS HURT. NOW, AS YOU CAN SEE, I’M STANDING INSIDE OF WHAT WAS THE BARN. AND PARSLEY AND HIS FAMILY HAVE MADE A LOT OF PROGRESS TODAY. CLEANING THIS UP. JUST BASED ON THE VIDEO THAT WE SHOT EARLIER TODAY VERSUS NOW. BUT IF YOU LOOK AT THESE PILES OF DEBRIS THAT THEY’VE HAD TO SORT THROUGH TODAY, THEY’RE KIND OF JUST LOOKING THROUGH AND SEEING WHAT CAN BE SALVAGED. BUT THEY TELL ME THEY’RE NOT SURE HOW MUCH THEY’RE GOING TO BE ABLE TO KEEP.
