"I had no idea that I would actually have to wear this..."

Kelsey Hall, a chemistry major at the University of Alabama, probably didn't think this would happen, but she’s now forced to get a little too spirited until the end of the semester—by wearing a gigantic Christmas tree costume every day.On December 2, it all started when Hall jokingly tweeted she’d wear the costume all semester if she got 1,000 retweets. “My mom got me the costume because I love Christmas, and she thought it was funny,” Hall told People. “I took this picture and thought it would just be funny to post, but I had no idea that I would actually have to wear this, so that’s why I said I would wear it for the rest of the semester.”Her tweet went viral, and quickly passed her 1,000-retweet goal; as of December 6 she has 23,000 retweets and 38,000 likes. Hall understood immediately that she underestimated the Internet:But she followed through on her promise, hitting the campus in her tree costume Monday and delighting the rest of the school. She even posed for photos with the school mascot. Hall told BuzzFeed she was embarrassed at first walking around in the tree costume, because not everybody knew about her viral moment, so she made her friends walk around with her. “I definitely got weird looks,” she said. And she kept going on Tuesday, despite the rain and the heat threatening the fabric of her costume. (Yeah, an umbrella isn’t going to help with this one.)Hall said on Twitter that she’s wearing the costume to bring some positivity to students who are stressed out about finals. But nobody so far has offered her an ornament to go with her ensemble. Luckily, she won’t have to wear the tree for much longer, since the semester is about to end. (Good thing, since that thing is probably not smelling too great.)
