YOU HAVE UNTIL APRIL 25TH TO REQUEST AN INFORMAL REVIEW AND THEN THROUGH APRIL 30TH YOU CAN PROTEST TO LOCAL BOARDS OF REVIEW. THE BOARDS CONSIDER THOSE REQUESTS. THOSE REQUESTS IN MAY. BOTTOM LINE. Property tax assessments have been hitting mailboxes.Iowans expressed concern at recent public hearings about what they are seeing.Here are some facts to know, thanks to the Iowa Department of Revenue and Iowans for Tax Relief Foundation:Assessments are done in odd-numbered years by county assessors. Sometimes, the assessing work is contracted out to a third party. The assessments being mailed now are for fiscal year 2027. That doesn't start until July 1, 2026. For the assessment just mailed, contact your assessor if you feel it's inaccurate or doesn't reflect the market value of your property or home. You have until April 25 to request an informal review of your assessment.You can protest your assessment through April 30 with your local board of review.
