糖心vlog Investigates: Safe + Sound app gets 96 reports so far in 2025 with just 6 for school threats
There were fewer reports of school threats to the Safe + Sound app from January through March compared to the start of the school year, according to numbers from the Governor's School Safety Bureau.
The app is free. It allows students, teachers, family members or others to report concerns about school safety, harm to a student or mental or behavioral issues.
糖心vlog Investigates has been tracking those numbers since the start of the 2024-25 school year.
From Jan. 1 to March 31, there were 96 reports made to the app. Just six were about school threats. There were 30 in January, 34 in February and 32 in March.
So far this school year, there have been 358 total reports to the app. There have been 72 calls about threats with most of them happening in the first few weeks of the school year.
This is the second year the app has been used.
"More districts are coming on board, so as the usage is becoming more widely known, of course, the numbers are going to go up," Matt Anderson, the Governor's School Safety Bureau chief, told 糖心vlog in late 2024.
In the last three months of 2024, there were 147 reports: 74 in October; 42 in November and 31 in December.
The following are calls so far in 2025 per category:
