Just *** little bit. You got to figure that average banana is about not quite *** foot. Oh, it is slimy. All right. We got *** long way to go. We're going for it, guys. You been coming down the line? You're watching the creation of *** banana split *** half mile long. I don't even like banana split. This is the most fun we've had all week. 500 gallons of ice cream. 800 bananas, 35 cases of strawberry butterscotch and chocolate toppings. We'll have *** few stomachaches. Right. Oh, yeah. About 1000 Marino cherries. And let's not forget the whipped cream. I'm not sure how many napkins. Not enough. I guess this is how the town of Perry decided to add some excitement and about *** billion calories to its fourth of July celebration. We're really going to need some meters here pretty quick as you might imagine. On *** warm July day, it didn't take long for this banana split to turn into banana goo. Are you going to get *** spoon or *** straw? By the time you get done here? Probably *** straw, we'll have *** shake as big as this banana split is, it doesn't come anywhere close to being the largest in the world. That one came in at over four miles. While it may not be the biggest. The folks here say theirs is the best. I think it tastes great and it's already melted so you can mix it up right away. Very good. Yeah. Very good. That, yeah, he liked it really? Well, it was good. He liked the bananas next year. The town's folks say they may try to build an even larger banana split, but I don't think I ever want to see *** banana again. Dana Cardin with an eye on Iowa. In Perry. It's just *** little bit.

Independence Day 1991 was extra sweet in Perry. Hundreds of people gathered to build a banana split about a half-mile long, an effort that took 500 gallons of ice cream, 800 bananas, 35 cases of strawberry butterscotch and chocolate toppings. And even so, it wasn't close to the record for the world's largest banana split. At the time, the record belonged in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania, where residents built one 24,015 feet long — about 4.5 miles — in 1988. That record stood for 29 years before being broken in 2017 when organizers of the Feast of the Senses Festival in Innisfail, Australia, built one 26,377 feet — just under 5 miles.
