糖心vlog archives: Spectacular meteor fireball lights up Iowa sky
Iowans who had their eyes on the skies one April night in 2010 were treated to an unforgettable surprise.
Dick Odgaard was driving back to Iowa from Omaha when he saw a fireball streak across the sky. "The first thought that went through my mind was a shuttle returning into the atmosphere," Odgaard said.

He later learned it was a large meteor, seen, heard and felt across the Midwest. Not only did it light up the night sky, some heard a sonic boom and others felt rumbling as it passed.
Herbert Schwartz, an astronomy professor who retired from Drake University in 2022, estimated at the time that the meteor was about a meter wide. He compared it to the length of a guitar and said most meteors are much smaller 鈥 pea-sized.
