I also really don’t know the details of these incidents still,” Couric said Tuesday. “And I think a lot of people who worked on the show when I was there, and when Matt and I did the 'Today' show, don’t really understand the extent of these incidents or what exactly happened and, you know, separating truth from fiction.”
Couric also went on Buzzfeed's "," where she spoke broadly about the #MeToo movement and said she doesn't have "any one-size-fits-all way of understanding a situation."
Lauer was after a female staff member filed a complaint accusing him of inappropriate sexual behavior. came forward with by Lauer, including one incident in 2001 where he a staff member in his office.
In January, Couric told that the entire situation was "very painful" for her.
“The accounts I’ve read and heard have been disturbing, distressing and disorienting and it’s completely unacceptable that any woman at the 'Today' show experienced this kind of treatment.
“I had no idea this was going on during my tenure or after I left,” she continued. “I think I speak for many of my former colleagues when I say this was not the Matt we knew. Matt was a kind and generous colleague who treated me with respect."
